Preparing for Marriage

Like any journey of great significance, the road to your wedding day takes time. Practically speaking, you will want to plan in advance and allow 6-12 months for the following steps to unfold:

A great first step is to email us at weddings@stgeorgebanff.com to check if the date you are planning for is available. Once we have confirmed the date is free, you will fill out our wedding booking form. This form will be forwarded to one of our clergy who will then contact you and your fiance for an online meeting.

Joining our church community for weekly worship will give you a clearer sense of whether you would like to be a part of the church family, strengthen and encourage your faith, and better equip you to live everyday life as someone learning how to follow Jesus. Join us on Sunday's to see if we are the right fit for you. Our experience (and expectation), is that worshipping with us regularly helps form a solid basis for the promises you will make on your Wedding day.

“Your wedding is one day – your marriage is a lifetime.” At St. George-in-the-Pines, we are committed to helping couples build strong, enduring marriages. To support you in this important journey, we require all couples being married at our church to participate in pre-marriage counseling.

You may choose to journey with your own minister or a professional counselor, or you may complete our self-directed Pre-Marriage Course. This process provides a valuable opportunity to discuss key topics as a couple, including communication, intimacy, conflict resolution, and spiritual concerns.

We also recommend comitting to seeing a couples counsellor during the first year of marriage, and ongoing if possible. To this end we are glad to recommend to you Christine Oduor from Mzima Counselling. Her contact can be obtained here.

Many couples find that the months leading up to their wedding are a time of spiritual searching and growth. With this in mind, we strongly encourage those being married at St. George-in-the-Pines to participate in our faith basics Alpha Course.

This fun and relaxed 7-week course provides a welcoming space where all questions are allowed, there’s no pressure, and you can’t fail or be turned away. Time and time again, we’ve seen how couples who take part in Alpha grow stronger in their relationships and their faith as they prepare for marriage.
