Our tendency to put our ultimate trust in poltics is challenged by the birth of Jesus. Because our ways are drenched in power to cooerce, but God is born a child, meek and vulnerable.
And that means to the idea that 'might makes right' has been made obsolete in the birth of the humble King of kings.
The Magi, kings themselves, bend the knee and worship the newborn King. They don't stand on their dignity, they don't try to rationalize Jesus to the spirit of their age, they worship Jesus, admitting that our deepest need doesn't have a human solution, that we are healed by the One born to save us: Jesus the Saviour.
